A Home of Our Own

Kira Cares, Inc. Donated 49 sheet sets, decorative supplies, and educational supplies to the Best Care Children’s Home. The aim is to re-beautify a needy facility so that it’s child-friendly, exudes a feeling of warmth, love and learning.

 

Through the Eyes of a Child

Kira Cares, Inc. will launch a program aimed at recording the daily lives of children in Jamaica through photo journalism. The children will use cameras to capture the essence of what, in their eyes, defines their daily lives. They will be allowed to do hands on work producing a product, of which they can be proud. Learning in this case will be achieved through the arts. This project will allow us some insight on what children really feel, see, and need in Jamaican communities.

 

Medical Initiative

Jamaica’s future is dependent on the security and productivity of its youth. Kira Cares aims to foster the cultivation of a healthy, intelligent, civic-minded population of young people. Too often we lose prospects of a brighter future because of the declining health of Jamaica’s children.

One in every five Jamaicans is an adolescent, many of who are plagued by economic instability, which prevents them from getting proper medical care. Keeping true to the organization’s mission, Kira Cares is working on a medical initiative, scheduled to begin in the summer of 2010, geared at improving the health conditions for economically disadvantaged children between 0 and 18 years of age.

This very important initiative will be aided by the services of doctors, nurses, dentists, and mental heath workers from Jamaica and the US who will volunteer their time. We are also collecting donations in the form of basic, over-the-counter medical supplies and hygienic goods.

Invest in the Future

Help pay a child’s tuition for four years. We aim to get subsidized high school tuitions from some of Jamaica’s most prominent schools for children who couldn’t have afforded it otherwise.

Teacher Training Workshop

Kira Cares will construct a series of workshops for Basic School teachers. Our goal is to improve reading comprehension from an early age.
